Impact of event/topic during the Civil Rights Era:
The Riders called themselves the "Branch Of Peace". The Freedom Riders had a HUGE impact on why today whites and blacks can sit together and be together in public. They made it so that blacks were allowed to vote and as well as use the same bathroom as whites. They should get the credit they deserve. They knew what was right. They put themselves in a risky situation, not knowing what could happen to themselves. Not knowing that they could be killed when they went on strikes for blacks. They made it so that the blacks have more freedom to eat, sit, laugh and be themselves with whoever they wanted to have a conversation with. They traveled around the world leaving their families behind to do what they believed was right. Even though the laws did not change right away they did change within the next year or two. And many blacks were happy. But then their was many whites that did not think that the laws should be changed. The Freedom Riders accomplished their goal. If they were alive today they would be very proud too see how far we overcome racism.

Current Issues that involve the event/topic:

Many times today people do not want to sit next to different types of people. Not only towards black people. For example many people are afraid of sitting next to people of the eastern descent. All because of what happened on 9/11.Its not fair
how it still continues today but some people will just never change but we did come a looooooong way.
